Chinese Cultural
Festival in New York in 2006
In September 2006, the first “Chinese Cultural Festival” will be
held in three key locations, New York City, Edison NJ and
Boston. The month long festival includes exhibitions and
performances, cultural programs and activities, lectures and
symposiums. The festival will help promote awareness and
understanding of Chinese culture with the purpose of
intercultural exchange, prospering the economy and creating a
new community.
Debuting in New York, the Chinese Cultural Festival is brought
to you by the Asian Cultural Center. Co-hosts and other
organizations will participate including: Chinese Consolidated
Benevolent Association of New York, China Institute, Gladney
Center for Adoption, The New School India and China Institute.
The co-hosts popularity and prestige and deep community
foundation will result in extensive support and participation.
The Festival will be divided into two parts: Indoor and Outdoor
activities
1. Indoor activities.
The majority of the indoor activities will be held at the Asian
Cultural Center New York and a few will be held in the Asian
Cultural Centers based in Boston and New Jersey.
Locations:
As the main assembly hall, New York’s Asian Cultural Center was
established in 1998, located in the heart of Manhattan—15 East
40th Street (Between Fifth Ave and Madison Ave). The Center
promotes the understanding and appreciation of traditional and
contemporary Asian civilization, culture and heritage. The goal
of the center is to bridge the gap between the East and West by
providing cultural environment for understanding contemporary
Asia.
New Jersey’s Asian Cultural Center is located in populous Edison
city and Boston’s Asian Cultural Center is located in downtown
among many famous universities. They are both very active and
well-known centers in the local community.
I. Activities:
• Art: Photograph exhibition of China travels, Chinese folk art
exhibition, Chinese culture exhibition and Chinese classical and
contemporary art exhibition.
• Dance: Three “Romantic feeling in Yunnan” performances by
Opera ballet troupe in New York, Boston and New Jersey.
• Twelve Chinese film screenings.
• Twelve Chinese lectures by famous Chinese academic experts
(history and culture, China economy and tea art performance)
• Yunnan province’s business meeting
2. Outdoor activities
During the period of festival, there will be an outdoor Chinese
festival for a entire day. The festival will take place in the
Battery park in New York and will include performance,
entertainment, exhibitions and shopping.
• Location will be in Battery Park Expecting 1000 participants
to attend this event.
• In the main stage, there will be a performance named “Colorful
Yunnan” by a Chinese professional performance group. There will
also be local artists performing on stage.
• Chinese traditional activities such as dragon dancing and kite
flying will continue to take place throughout the day.
• There will be a various events and activities including:
Chinese herbal medicine, Chinese cuisine, Chinese traditional
folk art, Clay making, calligraphy, Chinese educational tools,
financial consultation and so on.
Detailed event exhibition/activity booths:
• Oriental cuisine exhibition area
• Chinese Medicine and health Booth: acupuncture, massage, Tai
Chi and health information
• Education Booth: Chinese language text books, videos and
audios, traditional clothing.
• Entertainment and recreation Booths: paper-cutting, clay
figurines, seal cutting, Chinese knots, dragon and lion dance,
storytelling, comic dialogue, lantern riddles, magic, learn to
make pyramid-shaped dumpling wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves,
learn to weave, raffles.
The success of the Chinese Cultural Festival will come from many
influences suchs as media. the committee plans to search
multiple media outlets (western and Chinese) to make sure that
there is extensive publicity.

• Newspaper: World Journal, Sing Tao Daily, MingPao Daily News

The organizing committee will begin the publicity process in
April 2006. The remaining 6 months will be dedicated to proper
preparation for the event in hope to attract close to ten
thousand participants during the month of September.
Chinese Cultural Festival in New York, 2006 plans to be an
annual festival that will grow in popularity and prestige. All
participants, visitors, hosts and sponsors will come together to
explore Chinese culture and the wonders of the East.
In order to make this festival successful, the organizing
