Thai Shadow puppetry or Nang Talung, a form of entertainment at
festivals, fairs, and celebrations, traditionally also describes matters of
local interest. Two Thai artists, Vasan Sitthiket and Nutjaporn (Bow) Swasdiprom,
both visiting fellows through the Asian Cultural Council, have adapted the art
form to critique current issues impacting Thailand in the 21st century. Vasan
confronts governmental corruption and apathy using political characters
performing at Thai Alliance for Democracy conferences across the United States
while Nutjaporn who performs with Wandering Moon gathers village stories as
material for their performances. Both artists will present excerpts of their
work through video documentation and performance followed by Q & A.
ThaiLinks is dedicated to increasing awareness on issues affecting Thai
